The Importance of Rotation in EFA

Rotation is a very prominent part of ESEM in that once you allow cross loadings, you have to be able to sort out which are the primary and which are the secondary loadings. We would like each item to load highly on one factor and low on all other factors. But we can bring in exogenous covariates, which are predictors of our factors. The premise of a rotation is once you have your initial factor solution within an EFA, an infinite number of scalings result in exactly the same representation of the data.
