The Texas playboys were the first massively, massively successful Western swing band. Their style involved taking elements from everywhere and putting them together. This was music for dancing with a lot of aspects that would later make their way into rock and roll. When you listen to them play with a heavy backbeat, you can hear the influence of polka music.
