Seeing Sounds, Tasting Names: The world of synesthesia

Twenty Thousand Hertz

CHAPTER

Synesthesia Helps You Remember Numbers

Jazz musician Adam Neely says that having synesthesia helps him remember the notes on the neck of his bass guitar. In 2004, synesthet Daniel Tamet sat in front of an audience at the Oxford Museum of History and Science and correctly recited the first 22,514 digits of pie. Other musicians who have described experiencing sound as colors include Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, Billie Joel, Pharrell Williams, and Kanye West. A lot of people also get a tingling sensation in the back of their head when they listen to ASMR videos.
