Bruce Nickel's Addiction
In June 1934, Walter and Ruth Nickel visited a Seattle maternity home. They left with their newly adopted son, a week old baby they named Bruce. When Bruce was 16 years old, he overheard his father talking about his adoption. He felt resentment towards his biological mother, forgiving him up in the first place. In helping Nummy Sorrows, Bruce became heavily reliant on alcohol and soon developed an addiction that led to many missteps throughout his life. Though he could be rowdy and stubborn, between Bruce's rough edges was gentleness, humor and intelligence, available for anyone willing to look.
