The Transatlantic Story
Indigenous people are playing football games in Seville and French churches being used to baptize Indigenous people way before Cortez reached Mexico. This isn't a part of the story of transatlantic slavery we know about very much, I think, in the popular narrative. It's so important to recognise that because I think we haven't thought in very reciprocal terms about this exchange. People like Olivet or Télie, David Olosoga and others have done some great work writing black people back into the histories of Britain and of Europe. We've seen things like black-Britain, black Europeans. The past is more diverse place than perhaps the traditional histories had led them to believe.
