The movie was made by paul werhoven, and i've heard contrasting accounts of how this happened. Some people say he just didn't care what was in the book. But either way, he made a film that's fundamental tenant is anti military. I would say, and anti government, anti government and anti jingoism,. And kind of undermining, not kind of directly undermining principles of the bookyes.
