Is There a Little Bit of Patriotism in German Accounting Fraud?
There was a certain complacency amongst the German elite, which you see in various different aspects of we're good at business. And this sort of thing, a giant accounting fraud, just wouldn't happen here. It was easier to imagine dubious foreign speculators and corrupt journalists somewhere over there across the water. So I think there was a little bit of patriotism.
