Of the 15 hundred or so molls built before two thousand seven, only a thousand or so are left. With a quarter more projected to close in the coming years. Molls seem like a victim of their own excess and of our own excesses wi shopping and convenience and cars. The dominant narrative about them all becomes one of death. These are the ruins of a dying culture, the American shopping mall.
