The Victorian Album Museum's pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2021 took this period of mosque making as its subject. The exhibition curated by myself Christopher Turner and Ella Kilgallen reproduced architectural fragments of three London mosques which can be identified as self-designed from the 1970s to the 1990s. Each mosque represented a certain type of adaptation. This suggests that diasporic Muslim communities are satisfied with more of a pan-Islamic identity rather than needing to adhere to an ethnocentered route.
