Zoo nutritionist looks out for novel ingredients that might help reduce the environmental impact of food fed to animals. Turanga Zoo spends $1.7 million a year on animal food, which is second largest contributor to its carbon footprint at Taronga. "We are always looking for new ingredients and just because there is a possible risk doesn't mean that I'm not willing to balance," she says.
