Paul Bloom argues that we are in fact inherently dualists. We have innate knowledge of what objects are and how they behave, but also a theory about the minds of others. And it's this tension between these two core systems that is called duty physics and theory of mind that leads us to become dualists. This is just an unfortunate consequence of these two systems of core knowledge rather than active selection for I don't think that would make sense.
