In two thousand and nine, the splendid little war of two thousand and three in a rack degenerated into a nasty counter insurgency mission almost at once. Those are the conflicts that the american military has actually been fighting most of the time. They have been unconventional conflicts, but not small ones. Waging these unconventional wars required the development and rapid fielding of unique technologies as well.
