Al Casali's Apostasy

The early part of the eleventh century saw caliph al kadir seek to establish an orthodox suni creed, inspired by the hanbali school. Any one who advanced the created as doctrine of the koran was an apostate who could be killed. Of key importance in establishing the new red lines was the hugely influential philosopher and theologian al cazali. Alcasali is often depicted as strictly opposed to reason and philosophy as such but modern scholars have ush back hard against what they see as a misrepresentation of gasali's thought.
