There was always a risk that as american forces and nato allies withdrew from afghanistan, the taliban would surge. But with three times the troop numbers, no one predicted the afghan forces would fold so fast. How has the taleban been able to take control so quickly? For example, in the city of gellalabad, the talaban marched in without firing a shot after tribal elders negotiated a surrender between the talaban and afghan troops.
