Esther Haas and the Queer Movement
Esther Haas wrote the script for "Sensors on the Street" The film was protested by gay rights activists during filming. Verhoeven refused to make any changes, but promised protesters would not be offended. When Esther Haas saw the finished film, he told the press that Verhoeven had held true to his promise. In Vanity Fair, Verhoeven's producer Alan Marshall accused the writer of retreating into political conformism.
