The fate of the planet in terms of our socioeconomic activity and the effect it's going to have on the environment is completely integrated with the fate of our cities. We need a grand unified theory of sustainability that includes everything that's going on in this planet. Energy is the most fundamental quantity that drives this. None of this can happen without energy.
