The Importance of Imperialism in the Modern Era
CNN's John Defterios talks to Julian Zelizer about imperialism and the new Cold War. He says it is a feature of capitalism, that from its inception has operated on a world scale. It helps core capitalist countries access cheap resources, which they can repress cost of production in the core, but still enable reproduction of labor at the same time, he says. The denial of sovereignty is what enables then a transfer of value, a transfer of resources and uneven terms, writes Zelizer.
