The Evolution of Language

In some ways, language allowed us to do stuff that we were already doing. But then there are some things that we couldn't do. And so this being able to separate ourselves from the story we're telling and do different things with it is one of them. It's an interesting question as to how much of our current grammatical machinery is purely emergent from this very basic, but I don't know, quasi-magical innovation of language.
