The Genetic Confounding of Parenting

There was a lot of excitement over the years that kids who grew up with lots of books in the house tend to do better educationally. It's a well-meaning thing to think, but it actually has nothing to do with parenting. People who are more intelligent and better educated tend to have kids who will go on to become better educated. And they're also the kind of people who maybe spend a lot of time reading about breastfeeding and think that they should put more effort in.
