Is It the Missing Link?
Hegel's point is that whatever it is you take to be human isn't a simple, like objectively observable development. Every moment along the way identity always has difference involved in it. And I think Derrida thought he went all the way with this and just say, well, we can't talk about identity at all. But maybe there's never that point. That's Hegel's idea of contradiction but also the intractability of it.
