The History of Philosophy

In some ways, sui genera, the history of philosophy is to some extent a historical exercise. There are ways in which contemporary artists can historically engage with artwork of the past. The aim isn't first and foremost what you're trying to re-enact when you're studying Spinoza's ethics or daycarts meditations. It would perhaps be felicitous to lurch away from the idea that philosophy stands in the same sort of relation to its history as physics does to its history.
