Stalin was an authentic like believer in socialism over communism and Marxism. And he believed in the communist utopia, the future. No doubt whatsoever that he was a highly repressive dictatorial. The practice mass terror was personally responsible by his actions and by his policies for the deaths of millions of innocent people. It was his politics and ideology that drove his brutality. Not his personality or the nature of his character.
