Cancer and the Immune System

The immune system is triggered by something called antigens. They're basically markers on the outside of a cell or a virus that indicate to the body that something is foreign. In some people, in some cancers, the immune system can actually create the type of immune response that has the capability of destroying cancer. But only a minority of patients have been able to stimulate the righttype of immune response against their cancer.
