The Court of King Arthur's Castle, a Romance of Leonice
Hardy is satirising this Victorian obsession with the Arthurian. The character Elfride who is very clearly modelled on Emma, writes a novel about the Middle Ages. She sort of says she doesn't stand up for her novel very vociferously. No she doesn't, but she's a sort of delicate creature and he's very forceful. I mean he is the kind of patron saint of man's blaining Knight.
