Kathy was being investigated in connection with the embezzlement scandal, and literally two days before she was supposed to talk to police, she gets murdered. I'm not a big conspiracy theorist, but you just play one on t v. It seems much more likely that she was simply involved in this whole situation in he could have started doing this. Or maybe she's in charge of the family's cheque book. And look, it wasn't just the two of them. It's clear that there were several people that were not only aware of what was going on, but were involved in on the take as well. At least they're equipped to put out their pants on fire.
