Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books are deceptively deep beneath all that tongue-in-cheek, zany British humor. The Motley crew ends up making it to the domicile of the ruler of the universe. And so they meet him, and he is just this little simpleton living in a shack on his own with just a cat to keep him company. So that's what's sort of so ironic about him, that he doesn't necessarily believe in the existence of the universe that he's actually ruling. He's actually right.
