Takuan's Critique of the Tokugawa Edicts

Takuan was the abbot of Diatokaji in southern Kyoto. He did not complete the 30 years of study that were required by the Tokugawa edicts before getting the purple robe. Like many of the great Rinzai sect masters before him, Takuan was well-versed in Buddhist and Zen canons of literature.
