The Myth of the Hero With a Quill Pen

The idea of the hero with a quill pen is sort of damaging to our idea of how some of history's most important political documents come to fruition. I mean, it seems like almost a heroic thing that, wow, Jefferson came up with ideas. But in fact he was drawing on other sources when writing the Declaration of Independence. He wasn't Madison or Jefferson doing it on its own.
