The Battle of Nanking
Luxury liner set off from San Francisco in late November, 1937. The last port of call was the Japanese city of Kobe; next port is Manila. There were 503 passengers and 330 crew on board - about half capacity. Low passenger number probably a reflection of political climate during second Sino-Japanese War.
