The Importance of Extremism in Politics
Sally Kohn: Radical groups play a functional role in normalizing ideas and rhetoric that might previously have seemed radical, but which now doesn't seem so extreme at all. She says the Southern Poverty Law Center's decision to label Moms for Liberty an extremist group shows this is true of both the left and right. Kohn: You can't dismiss radical movements even if they have small membership because again what they're doing is opening policy windows For ideas that had previously been viewed as extreme but are now going to seem pretty tempered by the kind of new extreme that's being offered.
