Listening to Crowd Science on BBC World Service

This week we're trying to find out why listener Monica still holds on to traces of her Romanian accent despite living in the USA for 45 years. We've just heard how our mouths make language sounds so it's so hard to make new ones and how accents change over time I've attempted some would say mangled some Japanese and some Mandarin apologies to anyone who speaks either  and yep I can agree that accents certainly are hard to learn at this stage but speaking a second with a non-native accent is to my mind a badge of honor surely being understandable is the main thing listeners think about when they speak different languages.
