Mutations Are Not Random, Right?

In high school biology, we were told that mutations are random. And so this is something that even as a practising geneticis and evolution biologist, i never really questioned - until now. So we have been looking at mutations in a plant called a rabbitopsis. It's a small little plant, and it makes for an excellent model system that we use in the lab to study mutation. When we look at the distribution of these mutations across the genum, what we're finding is a pattern that's definitely not random.
