There was a corresponding mania very quickly in the American spirit to exact revenge. I mean, we spent trillions and trillions of dollars to go and murder people that were involved. There's an introversion of Freud's project because now we've sort of... We wanted to find outside of us this enemy that could never be exterminated fully enough. But again, in a semi-suicidal way, either way is a kind of suicidal flight. The after effects of it seem to be pretty ... Like you can sort of trace, not to pun, you can trace this back to 9-11.
