Introduction

In 17 86, george washington got a letter that i imagine messed up his whole day. Washington agrees with henry knox that leaders of the states should meet and soon to construct a stronger federal government. But he doesn't want to come out a ret ment, and says he doesn't plan to attend. In retrospect, what can seem inevitable, if not preordained, is that Washington presides over the constitutional convention. The constitution is eventually ratified by the states in 17 88, but only after a contentious debate.
