Many film makers have attempted to turn the book into a film. But they've all failed, with many saying it's too ambitious and expensive. So why has doon proven so especially tricky for film makers? I think it's because of the richness of the universe. And essentially what frank herbert managed to do is create an entire political and religious system with lots of competing values and lots of details.
