Is LIGO a Space Laser?
In principle, you might be able to observe it before Earth brings them back to the equilibrium position. But LIGO is really just not set up to make this kind of measurement. Instead, what you need is the same kind of detector, but where there is no nearby massive object pulling on everything. Basically, you need this thing out in space. So there's just more of an excuse to have space lasers.
