The average American consumes almost 12 hours of media per day. The power of stories has been described as a 'supercharge' to the human mind. We have this sort of bozo confidence that stories don't influence us very much, and that's precisely what gives them so much influence over us. But with respect, they're wrong. Science leaves little reasonable doubt that stories have special, unique capacity to rivet our attention,. to rouse us emotionally and hange how we think and feel and behave.
