The Problem of the Spinning Top

Sofia started to study a problem that would become her most celebrated work the rotation of a solid body about a fixed point or in everyday speech a spinning top. This was a famous problem that in the middle of the 18th century had been tackled by the great Swiss mathematician Leonard Euler and he did what mathematicians do when they're faced with a really difficult problem pare it down to the simplest possible case. The particular mathematics that she used for her solution was something called feeter functions which is where as a mathematician you can consider the weight of the object.
