Seeing a Black Hole From General Relativity
Early on, general relativity was the only candidate to explain these kinds of things. But recently there's been a flourishing of other ideas that might explain the same observations. These include dark stars and fuzz balls which are quantum mechanical. So we think almost certainly general relativity is wrong and needs to be modified by some theory of quantum gravity That tells us what else is going on inside a black hole.
