The Odyssey of Xenophon and Suthis II

About 5,000 of Xenophon's men were still in the vicinity of Byzantion when he arrived. He decided on Suthis II as ruler of his lands along the Aegean shoreline and terrace over those in the western Black Sea coast. The two shook hands on an agreement for his use of the Greek army to make himself ruler of the Thracian coast. In return, the Greek soldiers would be paid one stater per person a month.
