Rousseau thought that we shouldn't deliberate with one another before we vote. Lee: But in the real world, it's often about persuading or sometimes even manipulating others. He says there is something to the Rousseauian idea that deliberation when it works well is about the force of the better argument. We want people who have a requisite level of competence to be able to vote, he adds.
