David Gergen: The conventional wisdom was Republicans were going to have a really big year. Is that what happened in the last election because I've had my pundit wings taken from me? He says candidates focused on the future did quite well but those focusing on the past didn't fair as well. "I said then for the Republican Party to prevail we need to be the party of the future," he says.
