Wasp is an acrodem for anglo saxon protestant. It typically meant somebody who was part of the upper crust in early twentieth century american society. Wasps produced brilliant reformers like eleanor theodore and franklin roosevelt. They inspired heroes of the cold war like den atchinson and joe alsop. And they had a certain style and chick that drove characters like f scott fitzgerald, j gatsby. But by the 19 sixties and 19 seventies in the united states, they were seen as decadent and mostly caricatured.
