In science, you can attack your opponent mercilessly and it would not be considered to be unfriendly or bad form. But if you keep some minimal degree f civility, i think they are genuinely preciate a back and forth of arguments. They realize the utility of it, which i alsoi appreciate. In science, of course, you can't really do that so freely. If you take the same kind of combative attitude in science, you were, i tried, you would suffer in your career,. Because there will be retaliation. And people do remember things, andt they get upset when you really attack their work.
