i think it's probably safe to say that they originated out of the military. So you have blacksmiths and carpenters working in conjunction with thehe military. And who is going to be in need of processes? Well, soldiers. Because losing a part of your body did not automatically disqualify you from military service. We have lots of ancient literary references to soldiers losing eyes, lost hands, et cetera. so it makes sense then that you'd have your military blacksmiths who make your arms and armor make you a procesis.
