The Ego and the Death Instinct

Frida Ghitis: The ego de-sexualizes and tries to sublimate erosis drives and desires. She says the death instinct might not actually have anything to do with us as humans, but instead has everything to do with repeated violence within society. Ghitis: We live in a society that encourages that rewards aggressiveness and violence. It's important to account for how they exist in harmony with one another for Freud at least.
