The Tojo's Response to the Fall of Saipan
Japanese civilians on Saipan chose to kill themselves rather than be taken prisoner. They'd been taught, brainwashed, really from the late 30s, that America was the great evil. In their thousands, and Saipan, they prefer to jump to their death rather than submit. It shows how callous and heartless the Japanese military actually was in extending these kind of policies.
