The west was not all that lawless accepted particular limited places in times shootings and gunfights were relatively rare when people were shot in western towns it was usually by police or deputies acting under the color of law. big gunfights like the one that happened at the okay corral are famous mainly because they were very rare and exceptional. The cowboy and guns these are really inseparable images and symbols in our modern mythology and in western film somebody always has a gun and somebody always shoots it by the end of the movie.
