In Our Time

Introduction

In 1849 a young English adventurer called Henry Leard started digging into a small hill in northern Iraq. It was on the banks of the river Tigris in northern Iraq and underneath it was the ancient city of Nineveh. He also found a collection of clay tablets broken up and jumbled around on the floor of the Antirum to the Royal Chamber. Although Leard didn't know at the time, it was one of the greatest archaeological finds ever made. We'll be talking with Eleanor Robson, Karen Radner and Andrew George about this find.
