The Unintended Consequences of Tinkering
If we went by popular vote, all of a sudden Trump has an incentive to show up in California and ends up taking away votes from Clinton. We're talking about people who are changing the rules of the game and assuming that people's behaviors will not change. If we moved to a situation in which there were no electoral college, there would be massive unintended consequences.
